FORT SMITH CLASSIC NEWS - 2010
John Daly is playing in the 2010 Fort Smith Classic
Daly announced at a press conference on Friday, May 7th, 2010 that he would be playing in the Fort Smith Classic. “When Patricia (Brown, Classic tournament director) came here (Thursday) and was talking about how the Fort Smith Classic may be lost because they don’t have a title sponsor, I said ‘Well, maybe it would help if I played,” Daly said. “We never want to lose a tournament in the state of Arkansas. I hope I’m helping. It’s great for golf. It’s great for our community.”

FREE COX COMMUNITY CONCERT TO PRESENT NATIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC LEGEND CHARLIE DANIELS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
Third Annual Partnership between Cox, Fort Smith Classic & City of Fort Smith for Local Family Fun
Fort Smith, Ark. – April 20, 2009 – Charlie Daniels is partly Western and partly Southern. His signature “bullrider” hat and belt buckle, lifestyle on the Twin Pines Ranch, love of horses, cowboy lore and the heroes of championship rodeo, Western movies, and Louis L’Amour novels, identify him as a Westerner. But, the son of a lumberjack and a Southerner by birth, his music—rock, country, bluegrass, blues, gospel--is quintessentially Southern. In fact, even his bent for all things Western is Southern, because his attire, lifestyle and interests are historically emblematic of Southern working class solidarity with the “lone cowboy” individualism of the American West.
Charlie Daniels’ resume includes recording sessions with artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Flatt & Scruggs, Pete Seeger, Mark O’Connor, Leonard Cohen and Ringo Starr. His songs have been recorded by Elvis Presley and Tammy Wynette. Daniels has released Gold, Platinum and Multi-platinum albums, won multiple awards from The Country Music Association, The Academy of Country Music, The Gospel Music Association and even a Grammy.
When fans hear a classic Charlie Daniels Band performance like “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” they experience music that crosses over multiple genres. The same goes for “In America,” “Uneasy Rider,” “The South’s Gonna Do It,” “Long Haired Country Boy,” “Still in Saigon,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp,” and the rest of a catalog that spans 50 years of record making and represents more than 20 million in sales.
The free Cox Community Concert is scheduled for Thursday, June 17 at downtown Fort Smith River Park and will feature a full evening of great music. Concert tickets will be available beginning June 1 at Cox Stores in Fort Smith, Van Buren, Rogers, Bentonville, Fayetteville, Siloam Springs, Harrison and Berryville. Additional locations may be announced. Although tickets are complementary, they will be required for entry to the concert and are limited to four at the time of request.
The Cox Community Concert presenting The Charlie Daniels Band is a result of a successful three-year partnership with the Fort Smith Classic and the City of Fort Smith. Cox’s commitment to funding the event seeks to bring an extra dimension to the tournament week for golfers and non-golfers alike—with the hope of attracting out-of-towners to the city, too. The partnership offers the chance to showcase beautiful downtown River Park through outstanding live music in a way that everyone will have the opportunity to participate without concert ticket prices being a limiting factor.
